MAX WIDTH FOR PRINT: 4 INCHES -- An early-morning fire at the Golden Harvest Market on Maryland Avenue has temporarily shuttered the primary grocery for the Payne-Phalen areas's many southeast Asian families. A patrol officer with the St. Paul Police Department spotted smoke pouring from the building at 900 Maryland Ave. around 3:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2018. The St. Paul Fire Department forced entry and used a thermal imaging camera to detect the source of the fire in a back area that houses the grocery's deli department, said assistant fire chief Mike Gaede. The fire, which was not considered suspicious, was quickly extinguished, but it caused considerable smoke damage. (Courtesy of John Vaughn)
