3HMONGTV (03/04/18) – The qeej troupe from the Hmong Cultural Center joined with the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies (gtcys) for a concert at Washington Technology Magnet School  on March 3rd.  Chai Lee, a qeej instructor leading the troupe, says the concert gives him a chance to perform the Hmong qeej instrument in front of a non-Hmong audience. Chai says the qeej plays an important role in Hmong culture. The qeej is traditionally played at Hmong funeral ceremony to accompany the deceased to the after world. Chai also says the qeej is like any other instruments such as the flute, clarinet, or violin. It makes beautiful sound to our ears.
