SPPS leaders say the district is facing a funding gap of more than $50 million due to rising costs and state funding that has not kept pace with inflation over the past 20 years. To address this, the district is asking voters to consider a new operating levy that would generate about $37 million per year.
If approved, this funding would help maintain academic programs like arts, music, and language, retain teachers and support staff, and preserve essential services such as transportation and security. If it does not pass, the district says it will face significant budget cuts — at least $37 million starting in the 2026–27 school year.
To help us understand what this means for students, families, and the broader Saint Paul community, we’re joined tonight by Superintendent Dr. Stacie Stanley.
